“I want to add a little blue,” “I want to give this to my mom when I’m done”
Many individuals with intellectual disabilities face challenges in expressing their emotions and interacting with others due to cognitive limitations. Unable to communicate their needs and feelings smoothly, they often express themselves through anger, crying, or tantrums. This not only leaves them feeling frustrated, but also worries their caregivers .
At the full-day care center in Qishan, Kaohsiung—Children Are Us Swan Castle—most residents have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. To help them manage emotions, express feelings, discover interests, and enhance self-worth, the Foundation introduced a variety of art programs. Through creative activities, participants improve focus, train fine motor skills, and slow cognitive decline .
Under the guidance of their teachers, the little artists of Swan Castle proudly exhibited their artwork !
