The poem below was written by a veteran several years ago, and is as powerful now as it was then....
The Dark Cloud
It follows me everywhere watching, waiting it knows me
It reads me it waits for its next move.
At best distant yet still there still looming.
At worst consuming, choking, confusing, frustrating
I cant see, the Anger the Misery the guilt.
Endless cycle of regret the what ifs and the
Buts, the endless thinking, analysing of the
Impossible the unchangeable, the Past!!!
The sudden realisation that no matter what I did,
I did my best under pressure, under duress as a
Soldier as a person Im only Human!!!
With one foot forward into the future and one
In the past I will overcome this. I will win
This battle. I now realise that I am the
Cloud I am the problem!!! I need help felt
Like Ive only existed for to long want to
live again.
The work that you support us in lightens these dark clouds and provides glimmers of light, hope and then resolution into a life better lived.
Or as those we support say to us:

DG – ‘If it wasn’t for that phone call I got from you on that Monday morning I genuinely don’t think I would be here today – I mean that, thank you’
