As we move into 2024, we are asking for support for the work we are doing around vicarious, or secondary trauma. We are being inundated with requests for support from family members, carers, team members, who have supported those who have served and who so often carry the emotional cost.
Our vision is to run vicarious trauma workshops throughout our UK cafe hubs; for our team and those who come for support. These workshops are run face to face, empathetically and within our cafe hubs.
And the results have been profound and transformative - for everyone.
These workshops help breed empathy, compassion, humour, create healthy boundaries, understanding and help explain the effect of triggering events and actions.
If I had a wish it would be that everyone could access such training. We have run one workshop with profound impact; and we have some funding for 3 more, but we need to do so much more.
Some quotes from those who have benefited:
'I realised why I was so profoundly affected by their actions; and that realisation enabled me to deal with the grief'.
''By creating a distraction I stopped them spiralling into anger and rage.'
'I just hadn't realised why I was reacting the way I was. Now I understand and I can be more effective in what I am doing'.
And if it is required and we have the funds we will also be able to assess, and support those who need more complex therapy that the statutory services are unable to provide.
This is why we have focused our mental wellbeing appeal on these two areas, vicarious trauma workshops, and complex therapy - and increased the target.
Please help us reach this funding target.
