Its been a tough period with no new funds or donations for Munga community.
The solar power available at the site is still lower than we would like to ensure full power pumping to meet the community's water needs, but we don't yet have the funds to implement our proposed upgrade.
Meanwhile, we have been supporting the government Rural Water and Sanitation Authority (RUWASA) with advice on how to transition the Munga borehole site from being run by a community committee, into a privately-run site, to help improve financial management and ensure a more reliable water supply for everyday water users from the community. Without this, we've observed the site only manages sporadic operations, and the committee is unable to save for system upgrades, repairs and improvements. Funds for further capacity building could be a real game-changer for these community committee members, to help them maintain ownership of their site and ensure long term system sustainability.
