Thank you to all our supporters both old and new alike! You are all awesome and we so appreciate you hearing the call for help!
As South Africa is determined to address the spread of the virus by its COVID-19 lockdown, it brought about new problems. Apart from the lockdown's debilitating effect on the economy, it has suppressed some major types of crime and inspired a spike on new ones. Some of these crimes potentially if not already involve children. Farm murders, home invasions, petty theft and shop lifting food has increased.
We have known right from the launching of Keep The Dream 196 that 70% of children will be victims and/or perpetrators of crime. And children aged between 10 and 15 years commit their first criminal act. 76% of the convicted youth offenders have themselves been victims of violent crimes. With these numbers, we can see the urgency of keeping these children off the streets exacerbated by the COVID-19. The best way to do this is to address the hunger crisis rampant in Limpopo communities.
KTD196 is proud to report that, because of your support, we have been able to distribute over 150 food parcels to families in Limpopo. Every gift of $100 equates to us being able to feed a family of five. That is amazing and we are very grateful to those of you who have joined us to stop the pains of hunger, hopelessness, and fear in so many lives. Thank you.
While on lockdown, KTD196 decided to step forward and fulfill our mission to assist children to overcome difficult life circumstances. Even though our core program builds resilience physically, emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically, during this time, we realized that keeping the kids with their families and not on the streets looking for food is essential. We consequently realized that helping them eat and not go to bed hungry for days and weeks is critical. We have 147 wonderful food gardens. Each family who received a food parcel also had to create a garden through supplimentary training. Only 3 families failed this project due to goats and chickens attacking their gardens.
As we face the future and prepare for the worst the pandemic intends to throw at us, our goal is to distribute another 150 parcels of food, sanitary napkins, and essential hygiene items with our partner We Care South Africa. Coordinating with other organizations and local businesses has allowed us to reach more children and families. Please know that your support of KTD196 is having a huge impact, and hundreds of people are not going to bed hungry tonight, because of you. Thank you!
Below is a recent photo of the KTD196 team distributing food parcels. While we wish you could be here to see the joy and relief on the family's mothers who can now feed their babies, we hope these photos bring a smile to your face. It is because of you, and others like you, that we have been able to reach this milestone. We are far from done, but we want to celebrate with you. Thank you again. Please go to our YouTube link below and hear from the mothers themselves about what your support means to them.
We appreciate you and we hope that everything concerning your family is well. Please stay safe and in good health.
Blessings
