Phew, camp is finished, yes that’s right, throughout winter we go camping! This camp we cycled through a number of kids and adults over the course of the two weeks.
Firstly we trained 14 adults on being Tutors. Tutor are essential for our training, they act as patrol leaders and assist the adult participants in understanding the content of the different trainings, they ensure the group dynamics are progressing well, and they also implement the activities as directed by the course director.
We then used some of the Tutors on our Skills and Warrant Courses held next for 20 participants. The Warrant Course assists adults to work with the Scouts Program and implement all the activities required for a comprehensive and progressive program for the Scouts.
Then, we had over 150 children come through the camps, activities ranging from hikes, mapping and compass work, overnight and multiple night hikes to various advancement level badges required by the children to progress through the program. It was fun to watch the children cook on open fires without any pots or utensils, only with alfoil.
Then we had 80 children participate in the Spider Tool, which is part of the monitoring and evaluation process we use to understand the impact of the work we do within the families, schools and communities with which we work.
We also invested a number of new Rovers into the program, the Rovers are the 18-30yr olds and they have assisted us in running a majority of the camps. Most had come through the program as cubs and scouts however we had two join the program directly as Rovers which is new for us.
The looks of achievement on children and adults alike was wonderful.
You have been introduced to Benjy before, however I posted a video on our channel with the link below to hear about the impact of KTD196 on his young life. Benjy is not the exception. I hope you enjoy! There are also other testimonies by the kids our channel which you are very welcome to listen to.
Without your support none of this would be possible. Your donations enable us to change lives dramatically. You might think, ahhhh what is a camp, but the impact of the camp has long term ramifications. We are training up good citizens for the future! Our motto is “Building Tomorrow Today” and that is precisely what we are doing. You are a part of that success.
Blessings
Louise
