Avuxeni! Minjani!? Um Fekile minjane! (Greetings! How are you? I am well!)
This week, Elizabeth and I are with our partners, Seeds of Light, in Acornhoek, training parents of the children we work with, in Journey of Life. After training we are also seeing the children our scouts in two different sites, to maximise our time here. I have posted a video of our ice breakers where one of our Rovers is assisting with creating fun and stimulating people’s minds.
It is wonderful to hear the stories from the mums after only one day’s sessions. They all had homework last night but this training is so powerful, it really is! Most of the mothers didn’t know how important it is to talk to their children about how was their day! The mums thought providing food was the most important thing and not talking to their children. The children were shocked and surprised about their mums wanting to know about their days, their mums cared enough to ask them about their days. After the initial shock, the children started to guardedly share about their day, their issues, their concerns. It is all a process to change established patterns but we are doing just that.
I love getting out of the office and seeing, feeling and experiencing all that we do. I am most times trapped in the office with mounds of paperwork but on occaision, I have a gap and I go for it! Fortunately, at Acornhoek I can still work on the computer while Elizabeth trains but I love seeing the kids.
Your support is what is keeping KTD196 moving forward and changing lives permanently for the better. Thank you for being a part of this success. Thank you for making a difference. You are SO appreciated. THANK YOU
Blessings
Louise
