Money, Money, Money!!!

By Louise and the Dream Team | Director

Avuxeni, Minjane? Umfikile minjane! (Greetings, how are you? I am well!)

Thank you for your support, you really are making a huge difference in the lives of the children and ladies we work with. The SHG program is really growing and developing well as you have seen from last week’s report.

  1. 80 Groups
  2. 1,417 ladies participate
  3. These ladies support 3,819 children
  4. R1.9million saved
  5. R8.9million in loans
  6. 70% of these ladies now have small businesses and are no longer reliant on government or loan sharks or anyone else for that matter!

I am sure you will agree with me that the impact is phenomenal!

I have had a couple of questions from people who are donors to KTD196 and I just wanted to clarify generally for all to understand the program.

KTD196 facilitates these groups, we go to the Induna (Village Chief) and introduce the project. We ask for permission to go to the Induna’s village to start the project and he/she assists in identifying key people who can assist us in our mission.

Then we go door to door to introduce the SHG project, we speak to the ladies, we take them through a pre-assessment process to ensure they are the right ladies to be a part of the project, that is why I can declare, we work with the poorest of the poor because that is our target group.

When we have 20ladies, we hold a meeting and introduce the project extensively, and then if the ladies want to join we move ahead with the start of training. There are 15modules that we take the ladies through including the formulation of a constitution, how the group is to function, what happens if someone doesn’t pay back the money, what happens if a participant pass away or leaves the group.

The ladies are all trained on budgeting, how to develop a small business which includes researching what is already available in the village. They are taught a myriad of skills to ensure their financial survival.

Now, when the money starts building, as you can see from the statistics above it becomes very exciting but I want to assure those people who have asked, KTD196 does not touch the money in any capacity what’s so ever. This is not our money! We have no right to the money and as part of the process all KTD196 are forbidding to touch any money, even in handing it to the groups chairperson.

It is not our money, so to answer a question that was raised, yes we still need your support, your donations are imperative, and this is what we do your donation. We are not a community bank; we do not own have access to the money raised by the ladies. Staff are not involved in the SHG’s except when we have added Community Facilitators from the SHG’s, which is a paid position. They are given special permission by their SHG to continue being part of the group.

I am so proud of this project and the impact it is having in the lives of those in need. You should be very proud as well, because the kick on effect is that the children are eating better quality food, are having weather appropriate clothes, are going to school and able to pay for school fees and books.

Everybody wins!

Blessings to you!

Louise
