Nkoka and Mum Rose! A Tribute!

By Louise and the Dream Team | Director

Nkoka at camp!

Well, today is moving day as I said so I am going to use Nkoka’s story who you heard from earlier this year. Nkoka, as with a number of our kids who have lost their mums, the role that the staff play in their lives is very important. Rose’s role and personality meant that she attracted particularly kids who had absent or deceased parents. Rose was as safe place.

All of the staff have kids like Nkoka, kids who need extra support which goes outside the regular 9-5pm work. That is why what we do and who we are is so important. We are there! We are available! We listen, we advise, we encourage, we educate, we support, WE ARE THERE! We are there, because of you!

Because of your support, we can be there when the kids are in need. All because of you!

Thank you

Louise

My name is Nkoka, a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in Mohlaba homekraal. I'm an adventurous and passionate young lady. My story is painful and long but I'll try my best to highlight the important things.

My journey started on the 25th of June 2020, when I was doing grade 8, remember at that time I'm only 13 years old, turned out that this one morning I woke up and my entire life had changed, I had lost my pillar of strength, my support system, my mum had passed away. It was hard to watch her suffer, but at least she was here with us.

The whole situation made my life change, I was a child, my adolescence had just taken over, I was in pain over the loss and became very unruly, I was disrespectful, did unruly things that I'm not proud of even today. I had the mentality that since my mom is gone " nobody cares" but all of that changed when I joined this organization "Keep The Dream196".

I joined this organization in 2020 with the aim of its just for fun, unexpectedly things turned out in another way where I became more interested in them. With time and patience, the leaf of the mulberry became a piece of satin with this said I mean I gave myself to this organization. KTD196 gave me a new purpose in life, it gives hope and another purpose to live this life to the fullest.

Growing up I've always had a dream to fulfil and wanting to make my mother proud, despite the situation I’m still determined to make my guardian angel proud, I've always wanted to become a IT specialist with this career I aim to help other people and uplift the people from my community.

Investing in KTD196 doesn't have to be financial only but you can also invest by encouraging your children to attend Scouts and change their lives, or by leaving us messages of encouragement, by doing that you are Investing to the KTD196 program.

Recently, I lost my second Mum, Mum Rose. She was such an important part of my life and the lives of girls particularly who needed a mother figure. She has brought us up well, as strong and confident young women, eager to make a difference in this world. I just wanted to add to my story, to give honour to Mum Rose and to tell you what an amazing women heaven has gained.

Her warm hugs, he huge smile and her tummy laughs were always good medicine. She would always give us part of herself when we would meet her.

Thank you for supporting KTD196, thank you KTD196 for giving us Mum Rose, who in turn supported so many of us kids, boys and girls alike over the many years. Thank you for making her such a blessing to us, particularly those without parents.

Your support to KTD196 has meant the difference between feeling helpless and being hopeful. Even with Mum Rose gone, we know we will carry on and make sure we make her proud of all of us. We will make you proud as well.
