Avuxeni! Minjane? Umfekile, minjane! (hello, how are you? I am fine!)

We are all so excited, November is the month were we do all our assessments of our performance and the different groups assessments for the year. On the 8th November we are having our Annual SHG day where currently over 60 of our 80 groups are going to meet and celebrate their achievements for the year. It is a time where everyone comes dressed up in traditional attire and we are entertained by many songs, dances and skits for the day.

What I love is that the ladies realise how BIG the program is and how many ladies are actually involved. There is a sense of healthy competition. Not just in terms of the SHG performance and how many people have their own businesses and are growing their businesses but also the dance off’s which is a huge thing in Shangaan Culture.

The ladies prepare all year for this special day and what really blesses my heart is that they fund themselves to come, they pay for transport and catering for themselves which is a huge mind-set shift. Government for many years has paid transport and catering for people to attend meetings, if the sponsor doesn’t pay, people don’t attend. It has actually crippled people’s involvement. In fact, government attendance at different meetings is often also dictated by whether accommodation is 3 or 4 or 5star.

KTD196 is moving away from this because to be honest, people come for the food, not to participate, it is costly and unsustainable. We are slowly making inroads with this issue.

I am posting some pictures from last year’s SHG day, and will follow up with a report after Friday. In the meantime, thank you for all you do for KTD196 and the women and children we serve.

Blessings

Louise
