PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED: SUSTAINABLE SKILLS AND EMPOWERMENT FOR THE YOUTH

Reporting time:  June 2017

The mission of the Cogswell school of Beauty, Art and Design is to make vocational Education Appreciated, Affordable and Profitable and this last quarter we saw this come to life for one of the students of Hair dressing and Cosmotology. Below is her story of how she has started having her hair dressing and Cosmetology skill profitable before she even completes her year’s course.

I am staying in Vvuba village, Muduuma subcounty Mpigi District, I was born on 12th of May 1993 to Mr. Muyiiya aged 50 and Ms. Namubiru aged 42. All together we are seven children and am the first born. My mother is a house wife and my father is a peasant farmer and sometimes lays bricks to raise money that can sustain us at home. I finished my O’level last year and because my parents have no stable income, they were not able to take me to next level of high school that is A ‘Level. Throughout the long-term vacation, I was worried of what am going to do next.

Early this year, we were blessed with a vocational school in our sub-county with fair fees structure which is called Cogswell school of Beauty, Art and Design. I also registered in the course of Hair dressing and cosmetology. It’s about 3months now ever since I started learning and I now know how to do triple, twist and pencil styles, it is really amazing that in this very short period of time I have mastered all those three styles and I have stated working on some women and girls in my village where I am able to earn some little money and use it on my school requirements and also a help to my parents because they are so poor to look after all my siblings. This holiday I was able to raise 80,000 Ugshs. from the people, I worked on which was very impressive and am looking forward to learn more and earn more.

My dream is to become one of the best hair fashionista and one day own a saloon and I would love it in Kampala where I can compete best. I love my school, my teacher and My course. May God Bless You So Much.
