The Sexual Violence Prevention Association (SVPA) was honored to join RAINN’s Congressional Day of Action! 21 survivor advocates shared their stories and 12 National Sexual Assault Hotline volunteers spoke on behalf of the children they’ve helped. In total, we met with 42 Senators and Representatives about important legislation to protect survivors and prevent sexual violence.
Omny Miranda Martone, Founder and CEO of the SVPA, facilitated a group of survivors. They said, “As a survivor who regularly advocates for policy change, it can feel isolating. I often attend meetings alone, repeatedly exposing my trauma in an attempt to be heard. It can be very demoralizing and even hopeless. Today, my hope was renewed. I immediately felt heard by the many survivor advocates who came from across the country to tell our elected officials they need to step up to end sexual violence.”
Martone has repeatedly shared their experience as a victim of deepfake pornography. During the Congressional Day of Action, they attended the committee hearing and vote to pass the Take It Down Act! This vital legislation addressing deepfake pornography is now one step closer to protecting survivors of digital sexual violence!
