Enrichment from Abroad

Time marches on and because New Hope Center was founded in 2005, it only stands to reason that our kids are growing up. This is both a cause for rejoicing and one of sadness as they leave. Our eldest son, Caleb, completed his high school in Canada and is currently studying at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He has kept up with friends and teachers from his old alma mater, Smithville School in Niagara area near Toronto Canada. As a result of those connections, seven high school students arrived at New Hope Centre to work, experience life at our orphan home and to help with enrichment of our students.

The Canadian students spent the majority of their time at Hope Academy on the New Hope Centre campus. These kinds of experiences with folks from the outside world add tremendous enrichment and broadening in the lives of our kids. Mr. Scott, the science teacher from Smithville, had prepared science activities and projects that opened new vistas of investigation. Science has been a discipline that has presented considerable challenges for our educators. Mr. Scott created a new spark of interest that we had not seen before among the children. The Smithville students had prepared some dramas for the students to practice and present in a competition during the last night of their visit. Craft classes and a safari thru the Hlane Game Park were other highlights of the trip.

Our Abraham kids had chosen to serve as hosts to the visitors and took them on a tour of our national museum and parliament before going to see arts and crafts in the local creative arts centers. Because our children were participating in the finals of the national swim competitions, the visitors were able to go along to cheer and celebrate as our family won medals and scored national points.

The Canadian students flew home via Istanbul since the Brussels airport was devastated by the terrorist attack. We were grateful for all they shared and for their safe return to Canada. We would love to meet you and learn what you have to share with us from your corner of the world. Your contributions of money help to enrich the children’s lives in material ways and we know that your contributions of wisdom and love would enrich them as well. Thank you again for your continued caring and support.

With gratitude,
