Wonderful Journey

Phoebe and Abigail in Johannesburg Awaiting Flight
Phoebe and Abigail in Johannesburg Awaiting Flight

Phoebe, Abigail and Joanna are back from their exciting adventure to the United States. As you probably recall they earned the invitation to compete in Kansas City, Missouri, at the International Student Convention. Phoebe and Abigail sang while Joanna gave a reading of her own composition. They felt that the experience was, in their words, life-changing. They were inspired by the others students and were able to form friendships from students around the world.  The flags representing all of the countries of the contestants were displayed at the front of the auditorium. This was the first time in the history of the competitions that Swaziland was represented. (see below) This happened largely because of you and your continued support of these orphans-turned-leaders. They want to thank you for your faithful caring that gives them opportunities they could not otherwise experience.

During their trip they also toured New York City and went to a performance of The Lion King. It seemed appropriate that they were able to take pride in a story born on their own continent. In addition, how could they come to the US and not go to Disney? They had the exciting privilege of spending four days at Disney World and Epcot Center in Florida. I was able to be in touch with Phoebe nearly every day. One of the things she noted was that even with all of the wealth and beauty she saw, it was evident to them all that there is also poverty and suffering that was all too apparent on the streets of New York.

The girls had formed such strong attachments to the friends they met on the journey that it was difficult to part from them. However, they admitted that home looked very comforting as they settled back into normal life at New Hope Centre. All of these life experiences will be utilized in their positions as thought and influence leaders in the country of Swaziland. The trip was made possible by one generous sponsor.

Please understand that you are a vital part of all that happens at New Hope Centre as you continue to faithfully love, support and sustain these developing students with your prayers and your finances.

Thank you once again.
