We rely on members of the public for help in so many ways, help to notify our rescue line that an animal needs saving by one of our volunteers, help to take an injured animal to a vet or Sydney Wildlife members house, for donations and company community days at our rehabilitation facility.

Sometimes we are lucky enough to receive updates about our ex-patients from members of the public.

This beautiful mama wallaby was a regular visitor to a property bordering a National Park and they have known her since she herself was a joey!

Unfortunately, in December, she was attacked by a dog in a National Park and lost her joey as a result, as well as sustaining bite-wounds to the neck and face.

The lovely member of the public rang us straight away and we went across to dart her. Despite her injuries, she was still highly mobile and very skittish after the attack. Sedating her for travel was the safest option for her.

Dr Louise - one of our amazing volunteer veterinarians - flushed and cleaned the wounds under anaesthesia and administered antibiotics. She was given pain relief and anti inflammatory medication as well. She was admitted into our Sydney Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitation Facility for recuperation and further treatment.

A month later, she was released.

The members of the public have been keeping tabs on her and were delighted when her most recent joey popped its head out for a few seconds.

We love to know that our ex-patients are thriving - and procreating!
