As we get further into the cold months of winter, harsh temperatures and heavy snowfall make life even more difficult for refugees coming to Europe from Syria and elsewhere.  Your generous donations have helped support many organizations working to support this population during this difficult time.  Our most recent round of grants supported 15 organizations working throughout Europe to ensure that these refugees have a safe place to sleep, eat and learn.  You can read more about how your donations are being put to work with each organizaiton below:

  • Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation - To provide food, hygiene packages, baby formula, and children's New Year's gift packages to refugees at four entry-exit points in Serbia.
  • Bridge to Turkiye Fund - To provide storybooks, Turkish-Arabic-English dictionaries, school bags and supplies, language, vocational, and other general education at community centers,  and to sponsor language and art classes for refugee children and their mothers living outside of refugee camps in Turkey.
  • Days for Girls International - To provide menstrual hygiene kits to women and girls in Beirut's refugee camps.
  • Do Your Part, Inc - To support the Moria refugee camp in Greece with winter-proof housing, heaters, emergency supplies, and long-term volunteers.
  • International Humanistic Psychology Association - To conduct two 7-day disaster health care field clinics, to support a residential facility for 35+ refugee families; and to train and supervise 50 local direct service providers.
  • IMCRA- To create and disseminate eight, local-language medical education and reference resources that are easy to access and interactive, for families, patients and professional caregivers dealing with trauma-related medical crises.
  • Internews - To improve the quality of timely and actionable information reaching refugees attempting to enter Europe in order to reduce their vulnerability and improve protection outcomes.
  • IsraAID - To provide psychological First Aid for refugees, and capacity-building and supervision for social workers, police, army, and NOs working with refugees in camps and public centers.
  • JEN - To publish a magazine for and by Syrians living in refugee camps in Jordan.
  • Middle East Children's Alliance - To distribute warm clothes to 500 refugee children, 50 liters of gas to 1,000 families, and food and hygiene vouchers to 300 families.
  • Near East Foundation - To create home-based businesses, support urban agriculture, develop networks of entrepreneurship, support financial literacy, and create savings and loan associations and savings accounts for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan.
  • Open Learning Exchange, Inc. - To train 12 Syrian women coaches, provide 250 digital tablets, and allow 1,200 Tiger Girls to participate in team-based learning and quality education in the Zaatari Refugee Camp.
  • Pomoc Deci- To provide 100 relief packages for unaccompanied minors, and support one team for psychosocial support for children at refugee camps in four countries for three months.
  • RED International - To distribute food and hygiene kits to Syrian refugees and Iraqi internally displaced persons (IDPs).

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
