A college degree: Sharyl's dream come true

By Victoria Rialp | Monitoring Trustee

Graduation from University of the Philippines
Graduation from University of the Philippines

Sharyl Angel was determined to carve a better life for herself when she left life on the streets and stepped into Tahanan Sta Luisa 10 years ago.  “My inspiration to achieve my dreams is my siblings. I realize that I am the only one who can help them.” Tahanan supported her early studies, and with a benefactor Trustee, her dream to get a good college education

In 2018, she enrolled at the prestigious University of the Philippines, overcame her initial fears and slowly adjusted to university campus life. Despite the COVID lockdowns, she persisted and got excellent grades. She also helped the younger girls in Tahanan with their lessons so that they too would do well in school.

In 2022 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philippine Studies.

She now works at FactSet Research Systems (Philippines), as a Research Analyst for publicly listed companies. “My future plans include staying in the research field, particularly venturing to marketing research and also a teaching career in tertiary education.”

She affirms that she is happiest and proud of her new life because she is now able to support herself,   to send money to her mother in the province, and to support the schooling of her younger siblings. HER  DREAM COME TRUE.
