Talim bay's coastal communities, together with other stakeholders, the  continue to look for alternative source/s of income for local fishers while pursuing initiatives to help keep the bay's health, and sustain the fishers’ involvement through continued capacity building activities.  As this biodiversity conservation initiatives highly consider regulated fishing activities in portions of  Talim bay’s marine waters to protect  its coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove forest, local fishers like most of  our vulnerable sectors are even pushed in a more difficult situation with the COVID 19 pandemic.

DLSU-COSCA continue to support a number of COVID pandemic initiatives to  assist  the vulnerable sectors in its partner communities like the fishers in  Lian, Batangas.   Delivery of food packs  were facilitated  to the household members of area coordinators (ACs) of partner people’s orgnizations in  the coastal communities of Lian, Batangas:   seventeen (17)  ACs from  the like Lian Fisherfolk  Association, Inc.,  thirty-three (33) ACs from the Samahan ng mga Mandaragat sa Sulok, and  6 ACs from the  Samahan ng Maliliit na Mangingisda ng Binubusan.

COSCA  also recognizes the important role that Local Government Units (LGUs) play in making sure that food systems operate consistent with approved COVID-19 health protocols and directives, the people are properly informed and enterprises /businesses  and vulnerable sectors of society such as the fishers are protected and provided with needed assistance. Acknowledging this important role and to support LGU Lian’s efforts to protect its frontliners, COSCA facilitated on May 14, 2020 delivery to  partner  LGU of Lian, Batangas  the release of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) donated by the  De La Salle Philippines (Photo by the Municipality of Lian, Batangas).
