The De La Salle University (DLSU)-Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA) and the various Talim Bay-Lian Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Localization Project stakeholders uphold support for activities necessary to help maintain the Bay's biodiversity and health. These activities include mangrove planting and coastal clean up participated by the community members and led by organizations of local fishers like the Lian Fisherfolks Association (LFA), Inc., Samahan ng Mandaragat sa Sulok (SAMLOK), SAGIP Kabarangay at Mandaragat (SAGIP), Women's Love Rural Improvement Club (Women's LOVE), and Samahan ng mga Maliliit na Mangingisda sa Binubusan.
The LFA repairs the mangrove area boardwalk and common hygiene facility for its community-based ecotourism project. The project has proven to be an alternative source of income for the fisherfolks in the Talim Bay area. COSCA's LSDP- L-ENVISAGE Specialist facilitated a workshop on April 25, 2024, articulation among local fisherfolks who are members of the SAMLOK of their dreams and aspirations. COSCA further journeyed with SAMLOK members to define their collective aspirations. Another partner people's organization, the Samahan ng Mandaragat sa Sulok and SAGIP, and some member fisherfolks from SAMLOK shared their individual and collective dreams and aspirations in a similar learning session held on June 15, 2024. They formulated action plans aligned with their organization's newly defined mission- vision.
DLSU's COSCA, the Shields Ocean Research Center-Br. Alfred Shields FSC Marine Station (SHORE-BrAMS), LMO-Laguna Campus, and the University Sustainability Office in partnership with Local Government Unit of Lian, Batangas (i.e., MENRO, MAO & MDRRMO) and DepEd-Lian continue to support the people's organizations in the implementation of their action plans which include initiatives for sustainable fishing practices, environmental conservation activities, and community-based livelihood projects. These will help ensure the successful implementation of the SDG Localization Project.
