Update on the Talim Bay Coastal Resource Management Project
COSCA Community Engagement Bulletin No. 4 (February 12, 2015)
The Talim Bay Coastal Resource Management Project is one of many Community Engagement (CE) initiatives by the Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA). Started in 2004, the project uses a Community-based approach in the conservation, protection and promotion of sustainable use of coastal resources within the Bay. It is also a partnership with the Local Government Unit of Lian, Batangas, DLSU Departments and other academic institutions and continues to receive grant funds Globalgiving (US).
Last January 24 and 25, 2015, 90 local partners led by representatives from the LGU and Fishers’ Organizations, aided by Mr. Emmanuel Sambale (GIS point person) and Mr. Dwight Lobhoy (COSCA Project Community Organizer) conducted a re-mapping of the Marine Protected Area of Brgys Lumaniag and Binubusan. The information gathered was used as reference to the Proposed Municipal Ordinance sponsored by Lian Municipal Counselors Exequel Bonuan and Carlito Caisip in formalizing the MPA within Talim Bay during its Second Reading last January 28, 2015.
In recognition of its developmental efforts in Talim Bay, the Local Government Unit of Lian, Batangas led by Municipal Mayor Isagani Bolompo, awarded COSCA a Plaque of Appreciation last January 27, 2015 in simple ceremonies during the Municipality’s Foundation Day Celebrations.
Faculty members and students from De La Salle University Dasmarinas (DLSUD) and from the Far Eastern University (FEU) also joined the Project’s mangrove forest restoration activities in Brgy Lumaniag last December 2014 and January 2015.
