Dear Donors,
Thank you for your generosity and commitment to protecting the health of Nigeria’s youngest citizens. Your support brings life-saving interventions to newborns who are most vulnerable.
In Bauchi, Gombe, and Taraba States, many newborns miss the BCG vaccine, which protects against severe forms of tuberculosis. Nigeria recorded over 400,000 new TB cases in 2022, and children under five make up a growing portion of these infections. In these northeastern states, more than 80% of newborns do not receive the vaccine on time or at all due to distance, lack of supplies, or insufficient awareness among parents. This leaves babies exposed to a preventable but potentially deadly disease.
The “TB: BCG Vaccines for Newborns in Poor Communities” project will bring vaccines directly to families in hard-to-reach areas. Mobile outreach teams will visit villages with tricycles and mobile kits, vaccinate newborns, educate parents, and follow up to ensure timely protection. Families will also be guided on accessing local health services for ongoing care.
While the donations received are appreciated and tangible, they are not sufficient to launch the project yet. More support is needed to reach all intended newborns. With your backing, this initiative will prevent TB in children, strengthen community trust in vaccines, and create lasting impact on child health.
Warm regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
