We hope that all of you are staying safe and well during this time of the global pandemic. As we write, Viet Nam's government has successfully contained the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, and no new cases have been detected in the community in over 25 days. With easing social distancing restrictions, our fight against TB continues!
We are so grateful to all our generous donors who have continued to support FIT on our mission to eliminate TB in island populations. Even with the world facing tremendous challenges, we have received a total of 31 donations and raised over $3,300 to support our screening campaign on Tam Hai Island. In 2020, we submitted an application to the provincial government and received approval to begin screening activities on Tam Hai.
We are very excited to announce that the Tam Hai screening events will happen in early June!
From our past island elimination campaigns, we know that our activities can make a big difference. In January 2019, we screened Cu Lao Cham island and followed up with five days of TB rescreening in December to see the impact of our screening on the island. We found that there was a significant reduction in TB detection yields, from 14.9% to 2.8%! These tangible results motivate us even more to continue TB screening on other islands.
For the last time, we request your support for this important work on Tam Hai Island. Please continue to share our GlobalGiving campaign link with family and friends, and thank you for your unyielding support.
Stay safe and take care,
