Teach For Taiwan (TFT) recruits high-potential, mission-driven talents to commit to a full-time teaching fellowship in educationally disadvantaged primary schools for two years. After interview and selection, TFT fellows are equipped with professional training and a comprehensive support system to develop their teaching and leadership skills. After 2-year fellowship program, TFT supports alumni to continue to drive collective long-term change for educational equity.
We’re in an unprecedented suspension of face-to-face classes because of the covid-19 pandemic. Children in underprivileged schools are likely in an environment without devices and Internet access due to the meager incomes of their families. In addition, their family situations (single-parent families, losing-parents families, parents leave home for work, etc.) also let them have no elders to assist in online learning. Based on the conditions mentioned above, the problem of education inequity has worsened. Therefore, having interdisciplinary personnel who could respond to children’s needs in rural areas is necessary. To assist children to have high-quality education during the suspension, TFT Fellows design suitable online courses, frequently commute between children’s homes to ensure their learning environment and efficiency, and establish good relationships with parents to cooperate in children’s learning.
Owing to the covid-19 pandemic in 2021, TFT expects to send more TFT Fellows to serve more children in underprivileged schools. In Sep. 2021, TFT has corporated with 7 new schools, which are located in eastern and southern Taiwan. Up to now, TFT has sent 269 TFT fellows to 75 schools to support more than 6000 kids.

Compared with previous surveys, the school’s satisfaction with TFT project members is high and they continue to grow in different aspects, showing that the cooperation model and effectiveness of TFT and schools have been stable year by year.
TFT envisions that “one day, all children in Taiwan, regardless of their background, can attain an excellent education and the opportunities of self-development.”
