TFT Project Report Feb. 2022

By YI LIN CHEN | Senior External Relations Associate

Dear Friends,

TFT appreciates your generosity and support of our mission. Looking back on 2021, TFT is fortunate to have TFT Fellows who give good role models to children at the front-line, TFT alumni who constantly apply themselves to achieving education equity, and angels who contribute their time, funds, and proficiency to us. We never take this luck for granted.

In 2021, Taiwan is in an unprecedented suspension of face-to-face classes because of the covid-19 pandemic. Children in underprivileged schools are likely in an environment without devices and Internet access due to the meager incomes of their families. In addition, their family situations (single-parent families, losing-parents families, parents leaving home for work, etc.) also let them have no elders to assist in online learning. Based on the conditions mentioned above, the problem of education inequity has worsened. Therefore, having interdisciplinary personnel who could respond to children’s needs in rural areas is necessary. To assist children to have high-quality education during the suspension, TFT Fellows design suitable online courses, frequently commute between children’s homes to ensure their learning environment and efficiency, and establish good relationships with parents to cooperate in children’s learning. TFT also provides 150 tablets and wireless devices to support online learning and increases training and resources to support TFT fellows teaching online.

As the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacts global economics continuously, it also gives NGOs a hard time. TFT relies on funding sources from individuals and enterprises, with a large number of small donations, TFT can keep offering children high-quality education no matter the obstacles. So far TFT has sent 269 TFT fellows to 75 schools to support more than 6000 kids since 2013.

TFT envisions that “One day, all children in Taiwan, regardless of their background, can attain an excellent education and the opportunities of self-development.”

For more information on how your donation is helping to make a difference in educational inequity, we invite you to visit our page. We can’t thank you enough for your commitment to fulfilling our vision, and we look forward to your continued support.

Best regards,

TFT
