In 2011, Thailand experienced severe flooding during the monsoon season, which lasted for 175 days and affected 65 of the country’s 77 provinces. Approximately two years later, the survivors of this devastating catastrophe are still recovering.
Your generous support and contribution allowed GlobalGiving partners to quickly respond and send help to the zones affected. Foundation for Life, an organization dedicated to assist the disadvantaged and contribute in various social welfare needs, was able to provide immediate help in the form of food packages, which were distributed to neighboring families.
In the past few weeks, the reports indicate that tropical storms and depressions affected the South China Seas, bringing rain into the North and North-eastern areas in Thailand. Furthermore, many provinces have experienced landslides and flooding since September 18. On September 30, the Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for a tropical storm called “Wutip”. The Wutip Storm produced flooding to a height of 1.5 meters near the banks of the Wangthong River.
In the last couple of days, a contact volunteer from Foundation for Life living in Phisanuloke has been affected by the floods from Wangthong. In her report, she stated that “the waters came and increased to a height of 1.5 meters. We can only gain access to our house by a make shift bridge. The mushrooms we were growing for extra income have been destroyed”.
Your kind contribution allowed several families in Thailand to enjoy these food packages after experiencing the horrors of the great flood that affected the country. More importantly, your generosity is allowing many of these families to regain the much needed hope to fight for their lives and for a better tomorrow.
We will keep you updated in the following months; however, feel free to let us know if you have any questions or thoughts in the comment section below.
Thank you.

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
