Hi GlobalGivers,

Three years later, just over $4,000 shy of our overall funding goal, and look at how far we have come. Over time, our partner organizations have provided immediate responses to individuals and families in Thailand recovering from massive floods in July 2011. However, it is still important not to forget all those still in recovery. Children, especially, have been displaced from their homes, taken out of school, and had their lives changed forever when massive flooding hit their country. Thanks to your generosity, our partners at Foundation for Life have worked tirelessly to continue help Thai children recover from tragedy. Whether this be through promoting education or providing affected children with items their families cannot afford, Foundation for Life has always been more than willing to help the most vulnerable victims. Here are updates from their latest report:

Foundation for Life’s newest effort, through its project “Blanket Them with Love - Flood & Cold Relief Thailand”, all started because of one little boy. The five-year old son of a Foundation for Life donor gave up his own socks when he saw that a fellow toddler did not have any of his own. The flood damages have caused so much financial distress on Thai families that items such as socks are no longer feasible purchases. Relief started with one little boy’s kind heart and thoughtful donation. Once the donor’s son willingly gave up his own socks to the child, the family was immediately inspired to donate even more socks. They surveyed the surrounding area and generated a list of the types and sizes of socks needed. And their efforts came just in time! Soon after the survey, the school year began, and 250 pairs of socks were donated to grateful children.

All of this work from Foundation for Life started right after disaster struck in Thailand. They began by providing life packs including daily necessities, such as dried food, focusing on immediate relief. Of course, their hard work did not stop there. As a result of the cold climate in Thailand, citizens are always in need of protective gear and warm clothing when flood season hits. Foundation for Life aims to provide roughly 1,500 families with protection from the cold. This organization understands that disaster relief does not end just a few months after tragedy strikes. It is an on-going effort that needs care and attention. We at GlobalGiving are so proud to partner with such a passionate organization, and this partnership could not be possible without the help of our donors. Because of you, Foundation for Life can continue its efforts and hopefully inspire more people, like the donor’s son, to give to such a worthy cause. Thank you!

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
