Greetings from Wildlife Trust of India,
We hope you have been well.
With this email, we are sharing with you the updates for the project “Thank our Forest Guards this World Ranger Day”. Thank you so much for your generous contribution to this project and for believing in our work. We are so glad to have you as a part of our team.
Irshad, a daily wage labourer in Shopian wildlife division, Jammu & Kashmir, was grievously injured during a bear rescue operation. Irshad has been working with the wildlife division for past 10 years and has been assisting the forest staff in handling human-animal conflicts situations. During the reporting period, Irshad was informed about an ongoing conflict scenario in ‘Imamsahib’ village involving a black bear, following which he reached the location to mitigate.
Unfortunately, the bear attacked him during the rescue operation leading to serious injuries to his head and back for which he was treated at the Srinagar Hospital. He is the sole earning member of his family which includes two young children and this incident has affected them greatly. To assist him with his medical bills, we supported him with an ex-gratia of INR 25,000/-.
This support could have been made possible through your contributions made to the appeal, for which we are highly grateful. Irshad is better now and making a speedy recovery from his injuries. He will soon join duty and get back to supporting the forest staff in mitigating human-wildlife conflict in the region.
Warm regards,
Team WTI
