Dear Friends

Covid-19 is still causing major problems for every day life in the hill regions of western Nepal. The infection rate is increasing and movement is heavily restricted. The biggest danger comes from economic migrants desperate to get back to their home villages particularly during the main festival of Dashain this month. However I am pleased to report that some progress has been made as our implementing partners DIRDC and NDF adapt to meet the lock down requirements.

On the positive side two district level meetings have been held to agree procedures. Fifteen school meetings have been conducted and 3 sanitation pits have been completed with 5 more under construction. The school meetings have involved members of the school management committee, the head teacher and teaching staff and cleaning staff.  A public appeal has been made to attract candidates to train as plumbers.

As all schools have been closed student education awareness and training programmes have been postponed for now. These programmes will educate boys as well as girls and contribute to changing ancient traditions and practices that are so damaging to women and girls.

The Nepal Trust would like to thank you for all your support and help and we hope you will continue with us. This project will change traditional practices that are so damaging, and often fatal, for so many women and young girls. A better understanding of how the body works will open up new avenues for women and lead to more prosperous and productive lives.

Please share with your friends and colleagues and encourage them to help too.

Namaste
