Happy New Year to wonderful Global Giviing supporters!
We are thrilled to announce we have cast our next caregiving portrait. Thank you to Grace Liu, East Bay Site Director from Alzheimer's Association Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter, helping us to find Dolores and Charles English.
Dolores and Chuck live in Concord, CA. We are excited to begin filming our new portrait next month.
From Dolores: "My husband Chuck is the love of my life. We have been together for 36 years. Due to his work as a Civil Engineer we lived in Bahrain (Arabian Gulf), Venezuela and Chile. We traveled extensively in addition to our life overseas. It was a gift to do so while we were younger and in good health. Chuck took himself to the doctor when he realized his memory loss in 2009. He was diagnosed soon after with LewyBody dementia. He phoned his son and daughter and told them the bad news. He confronted the issue, made life easier for me.
After several falls and trips to the ER, his doctor told me he could no longer live at home and was placed at San Miguel Villa, a skilled nursing facility. He has been away from home for a year. I visit him 4 times per week and feed him his lunch as he can't feed himself. Sometimes he knows me and sometimes he doesn't, but I know who he is, he is the love of my life."
The Genius of Caring is designed to support caregivers and to provide students, healthcare professionals and others with a glimpse into the caregiving experience. We seek to feature the wide range of family caregivers and those living with caregiving intensive diseases.
We are deeply grateful to you, our community, for your generous support, love and kindness.
With love and appreciation,
Banker
