The importance of the first 1000 days of life, Mex

Dear friends and supporters,

During the past few months, Fundación Proyecto DEI has continued accompanying families through one of the most important stages of a child’s life: the first 1,000 days.

Our work has focused not only on supporting children’s development, but also on strengthening caregivers’ confidence and their ability to recognize and respond sensitively to their babies’ needs.

Through early stimulation sessions, responsive caregiving activities, and guidance for parents and caregivers, families continued learning how simple everyday interactions can have a profound impact on a child’s development.

During this period, we:

• Continued early stimulation activities that promote motor, language, cognitive, and socio-emotional development.
• Strengthened caregivers’ understanding of their babies’ developmental stages and individual needs.
• Promoted sensitive and responsive caregiving practices that help build secure attachment.
• Provided families with practical activities they can easily incorporate into everyday routines, using play, movement, touch, and communication as opportunities for learning and connection.
• Created spaces where caregivers could share their experiences, ask questions, and feel supported throughout the challenges and joys of early parenthood.

A special milestone this September was our Baby Massage Certification at Fundación Proyecto DEI. This training strengthened our capacity to accompany families through an approach that uses nurturing touch as a powerful way to promote connection between babies and their caregivers.

Baby massage provides caregivers with an opportunity to slow down, observe their babies’ cues, and respond through respectful and loving touch. Beyond the massage itself, these moments encourage communication, closeness, and bonding, while giving caregivers practical tools to incorporate into their daily routines.

This certification reinforces an essential principle of our work: during the first 1,000 days, development happens through relationships. A loving response, a conversation, a song, attentive play, or a gentle touch may seem simple, but these everyday interactions help build the foundations for future learning and emotional well-being.

At Fundación Proyecto DEI, we believe that supporting a young child also means supporting the adults who care for them. By strengthening caregivers and the professionals who accompany them, we help create nurturing environments where children can feel safe, loved, and ready to explore the world.
