Transforming futures in rural Honduras

Dariana, one of our 2025 graduates!
Dariana, one of our 2025 graduates!

Dear educate. supporters,

Today, we are honoured to share with you some of the recent stories and achievements from our scholarship programme and youth empowerment initiatives in Trinidad, Honduras. This year has yielded profound and transformative results in the lives of our rural youth, and we are grateful for your support!

This year we have supported 47 young people, including 43 high school students and 4 university students, who are making steady progress in their studies. Our comprehensive support model continues to strengthen school retention and open opportunities that were previously out of reach for rural young people.

In communities where just half of students continue after 6th grade and 80% of families live below the poverty line, these achievements represent real hope and transformation. 2025 marked a special milestone: six young women this month completed their secondary education! In each case, they are the first in their families to achieve a high school degree.

One of our graduating students, Dariana, shared the following: “Before receiving this scholarship, one of my biggest challenges was affording transportation to school, which often jeopardized my ability to continue my studies. The educate. scholarship has been an immense support. I dream of graduating and, in the future, having my own business. I know that with hard work and the support I've received, that dream is getting closer every day. To those who make this program possible – people with kind hearts and immense compassion – I want to express to you my deepest gratitude. Thank you for believing in young people like me; your support truly transforms lives, and I hope you will continue walking with us on this path filled with dreams and hope.”

Alongside our scholarship programme, our programmes are thriving: In our arts programme EducArte, 21 young people have developed their artistic skills through drawing, painting, sculpture, and community muralism. We recently inaugurated three community murals that these young artists created with a focus on youth leadership, education, peacebuilding and gender equality, using art as a way to spread positive messages in rural villages. In our UniDeportes sports programme, 53 young leaders have participated in weekly in sports activities that strengthened their well-being, teamwork, and leadership skills, and engaged 450 children from surrounding villages in recreational activities and sports days over the course of the year! In our ‘Technology with Purpose’ STEM programme, children and young people have acquired essential digital and technological skills, including designing functional robotics prototypes as poart of this years’ Robotics Camp, and exploring how technology can contribute to community energy solutions. And finally, our ‘Joven Comunica’ communications programme participants have developed skills in digital communication and audiovisual production, including a photovoice project using analogue photography to capture the realities of day to day life in their rural communities, and co-authoring their first article published in a Honduran Youth newspaper this month!

In addition, during monthly leadership and empowerment workshops, we have engaged 112 young people in acquired tools for personal development, such as decision-making skills, sexual health education, bullying prevention, and learning to build healthy relationships. Thanks to the strengthening of our team of 10 young facilitators, these opportunities are expanding, generating a transformative effect throughout the community.

Each of these achievements reflects the collective commitment between educate., the local communities where we work, and our donors and supporters, who make it possible for rural youth to discover their potential, lead processes of change, and become agents of social transformation. Thank you for believing in youth, and for making it possible for education, art, sports, and technology to open paths of hope and opportunity here in Honduras.

With gratitude,

Antonia McGrath & Natalia Anariba
