Three-Month Progress ReportThe Oasis Counselling and Wellness Centre
Diani Children’s Village – Kwale County
Introduction
This report outlines the progress made during the first three months of implementing The Oasis Counselling and Wellness Centre, an initiative aimed at improving access to mental health and psychosocial support for children, families, and the wider Kwale community.
Project Status Update
Significant progress has been made in establishing the Counselling and Wellness Centre. While the structure is not yet fully functional, it is currently being partially utilized. Some counselling spaces are operational; however, several areas still require additional materials and furnishing to enable full service delivery.
Key Achievements
A safe and private counselling environment has been partially established within Diani Children’s Village.
Individual and group counselling sessions have commenced, benefiting children, youth, and caregivers.
Basic trauma-informed care, including elements of play and art therapy, has been introduced.
Initial community engagement has increased awareness and uptake of mental health services.
Families have begun to show improved openness to counselling and emotional support.
Challenges
The Centre is not yet fully equipped, limiting the full range of services planned.
Persistent stigma around mental health continues to affect service uptake.
Growing demand for counselling services is placing pressure on the available capacity.
Early Impact
Increased access to counselling services for vulnerable children and families.
Improved emotional expression and coping among beneficiaries.
Strengthening of family relationships through guided counselling sessions.
Way Forward
Complete equipping and furnishing of all counselling spaces to ensure full functionality.

Conclusion
Despite not being fully operational, The Oasis Counselling and Wellness Centre has made meaningful progress in its first three months. The partial utilization of the facility has already demonstrated the critical need for mental health services within the community. With continued support, the Centre is well-positioned to achieve its goal of fostering a resilient and emotionally healthy Kwale community.
