Hello from Cali, the “branch of heaven”!
We hope this message finds you well. It’s always a joy to reach out and share the latest news from Colegio La Fontaine, our small but mighty school in the heart of Siloé. This past quarter has been full of meaningful moments — the kind that take learning beyond the classroom and into real life.
Our students have been busy learning, creating, and connecting with their families in new ways. Sixth graders launched a home-grown food project, planting corn at home with the support of their moms and dads. It has been beautiful to see families gather around this simple yet powerful activity — caring for their plants and sharing the excitement of watching them grow. Meanwhile, our fifth graders have been nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit through our Entrepreneurship Fair, where they designed and ran their own small businesses. From handcrafted goods to traditional local food, they offered their creations to families, teachers, and classmates. The event was filled with creativity and laughter, and the funds they raised helped make their next adventure possible — the fifth grade camp.
The camp is one of our most beloved traditions. Every year, our fifth graders spend two days outdoors, camping under the stars, sharing tents, singing around the campfire, and hiking together in the mountains. It’s a transformative experience — one that marks the end of their primary years and prepares them to step confidently into bachillerato (middle school).
Beyond academics, we have also focused on supporting our students’ wellbeing, especially in early childhood. This quarter, we doubled our park visits to give our youngest children more time to play and explore freely. We’ve also expanded our professional support network with language therapists and psychologists who accompany each child’s emotional and developmental journey.
Finally, excitement is growing as we prepare for English Day 2025. Students are rehearsing their lines and dance routines, parents are busy creating costumes, and classrooms are filled with colorful props built by the children themselves. The anticipation is contagious — we can’t wait to tell you all about the show in our next report!
None of this would be possible without you. Your generosity allows us to keep offering quality education, joy, and hope to children in Siloé. Thank you for being part of our story — and please help us spread the word in your community so that more hearts can join this mission.
With love and gratitude,
Teacher Lily
