The War Seen Through Our Eyes is a documentary family-interview project initiated by the Association for Ukraine's Hope / Ukrán Remény Egyesület, complementing our ongoing educational programs for Ukrainian families—primarily schoolchildren—living in Budapest, Hungary.
The project is creating a trilingual (Ukrainian–Hungarian–English) collection of oral testimonies capturing the first-hand war experiences of parents whose children attend our educational facility. While progress has been slower than we had hoped due to limited funding, significant milestones have already been achieved: the original interviews have been recorded, edited and translated into English and Hungarian, and English proofreading is complete. Hungarian proofreading is currently in progress.
Once proofreading is finished, the texts, along with the children’s illustrations and photographs, will be handed to a designer to prepare the book’s layout. We are also seeking a publishing house to print 200 copies.
Through this book, we hope to bring the international community closer to the lived experiences of people forced to leave their homes, rebuild their lives in a new country, and face the challenges of starting over from scratch.
