Creating Future Scientists of Afghanistan

Since last few months, there is a constant buzz in the schools of Nangarhar and Parwan about the brand-new study materials they will be receiving soon. Separate sections have also been reserved for the science laboratories and equipment. Our fellows are excited to teach their pupils with the help of mathematics and science models. The students are looking forward to try out the practical experiments which was mere a hope. What has generated all this interest and enthusiasm is the online fundraising campaign of GlobalGiving about developing scientific temperament among students of Afghanistan. In the times when receiving basic education is a dream for many, when a lot of children have been forced to leave their home and migrate to new places, when boys have to start earning to support their families and girls are married off as soon as they reach puberty and bid adieu to education, Teach for Afghanistan has ambitious plans to support the bright primary and secondary school children and show them a new path where they can build a different and optimistic future for themselves and their country. We are ready and willing to adopt innovative practical techniques and experiments in the classrooms of the Afghan provinces of Nangarhar and Parwan. With the aid of this campaign, our 60 fellows have committed themselves to educating 2000 girls and 1000 boys. We have identified a total of 8 schools in both provinces that can get immediate assistance from the cash being raised, and we look forward to helping more students as we approach our goal. We appeal for generous donations through GlobalGiving platform so that all this preparation can be turned into reality. Based on polls taken in all of our partner schools, these are the most under-resourced schools in the area. Due to this, it is feasible to have the greatest impact and supply essential resources to help the talented and deserving pupils in these remote areas. We are assisting schools in comprehending and implementing new STEM educational models so that the entire institution may reach out to more disciples. These STEM-related models will offer a setting for active student interaction. By sharpening their thinking skills, students can use their imagination to come up with creative answers to everyday issues. With the support of this project, TAO will develop minds that go beyond textbooks, and we want to produce a new generation of scientists who will steer the world toward a promising future.

Developing STEM-friendly schools in Afghanistan

Like the rest of the world, Afghanistan was brought to a standstill due to Covid-19 pandemic but the collapse of the republic government during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan last year, resulted in school closures several times and is still a major problem. Amidst the crises, Teach for Afghanistan fellows did not stop supporting their students and continued to teach them diligently. The most neglected subjects during these challenging times were mathematics and science. The ongoing pandemic made it even more important for children to know about such lethal diseases and how to take care of themselves and their families.

In order to impart better STEM education for primary and secondary school children in Afghanistan, TAO started this online fundraising campaign with the help of GlobalGiving and we are very excited to provide new learning materials and educational models to our students through the medium of our generous donors.

When it comes to implementation, we are fully prepared to introduce new practical methods and experiments in classrooms of Nangarhar and Parwan provinces of Afghanistan. Our 60 fellows have dedicated themselves to educate 2000 girls and 1000 boys with the help of this campaign. In both the provinces, we have identified 8 schools in total which can be helped out immediately with the currently raised funds and are looking forward to support more students as we reach our goal. These are the most under-resourced schools in the region and are selected on the basis of surveys conducted in all our partner schools. That makes it possible to have maximum impact and hence, delivery of vital resources to support the brilliant needful students in these remote areas can change this scenario for better. With the help of new STEM educational models, we are helping schools to understand their usage and apply these methods for the entire school reaching out to more students. These STEM models will provide an environment for interactive student engagement. By enhancing their thinking ability, they can use their imagination to find innovative solutions for day-to-day problems. This project is going to help TAO to build brains beyond books and we are hopeful of creating a generation of scientists leading the world towards a bright future.
