Making Afghan Students STEM-ready

By Nagma Naaz | Operations and Partnerships Director

The preparations to upgrade school laboratories are in full swing and the students are curious to learn with the help of new resources. In today's educational landscape, blending theory with practice is key. Teach for Afghanistan is acutely aware of this, as we confront the challenge of scarce resources in Afghanistan's remote villages. However, thanks to GlobalGiving's online fundraising campaign, our committed team of fellows is making strides to ignite a passion for science and math in Afghan students. At the same time, our talented fellows are leading the way in developing educational models with reusable materials, emphasizing the importance of high-quality resources for their students.

Unyielding in our dedication, Teach for Afghanistan is using inventive methods to secure a bright future for the talented students in Nangarhar and Parwan provinces. We have recently placed the first batch of fellows in a new province called Laghman. Our team is committed to delivering a superior education and is actively identifying and supporting schools in desperate need. We use STEM educational models to boost student engagement and foster critical thinking. With the generous funding from our donors via GlobalGiving, we plan to make 2000 girls and 1000 boys in Nangarhar and Parwan provinces STEM-ready. Our fellows have received training in Educational Psychology, Advanced Pedagogy, Management, and Leadership and are proficient in various methods to make learning engaging and effective. One such method is the use of educational models, which have proven to improve understanding and retention in subjects such as math and science.

TAO’s vision goes beyond academics. We believe in moulding character and our fellows and fellow coaches serve as mentors, instilling values like leadership and teamwork. Our goal is not just to nurture a new generation of professionals like doctors, engineers, scientists but also well-rounded individuals ready to shape the future of Afghanistan.
