Happy New Year

By Tom Stein | President

Happy New Year!

This is something we hear very regularly at this time of year. Happy New Year! But what does it mean to wish someone a Happy New Year? Does it mean I wish you a better life? Or maybe, I wish you a more comfortable life? Or, I wish you a more fulfilled life?

These wishes can come true when we also take the time and a step of two to help them happen. That is why BonZeb exists. To give a helping hand in creating a better, more comfortable and more fulfilled life for our employees, their families, their neighbors and those who lives they impact on a daily basis.

In this New Year BonZeb will continue to strive to fulfill wishes and dreams for employment, education, health. and community development.

Did you know:

  • Around 4 billion people cook and heat their homes using open fires and simple stoves burning biomass (wood, animal dung and crop waste) and coal.
  • Over 4 million people die prematurely from illness attributable to the household air pollution from cooking with solid fuels.
  • More than 50% of premature deaths due to pneumonia among children under 5 are caused by the particulate matter (soot) inhaled from household air pollution.
  • 3.8 million premature deaths annually from noncommunicable diseases including stroke, ischaemic heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer are attributed to exposure to household air pollution.

One of the many benefits of BonZeb's method in converting grass to charcoal is that it removes 90% of the smoke and uses it to fuel the furnace. This make the process itself 90% smoke free and the end product is also 90% smoke free.

To help you picture this let me use this example. In recent weeks in many churches the Christmas services included the use a insence. In order to light the insence a charcoal briquette was used in the insencer. When it was light it did not smoke. Only when the insence was added was there smoke. This is the type of charcoal we are making, not your typical BBQ briquettes.

This is just one of the many benefits BonZeb can and does offer with your help.

Thank you for the success of 2016 and we look forward to partnering with you in 2017 as we continue to give a Hand Up not a Hand Out to the people of Haiti.
