You're a Secret Superhero!

By Faith Abrahams | Communications and Brand Associate

Dear One,

Did you know you are a Secret Superhero in our TLC community!

While you may know our work is all about love and there are lots of ‘fluffy and pretty’ parts to it – Thank Goodness! Otherwise, it would just be all the other parts of Love …

There are those parts that are kind of tough …

The parts of love that require us sitting in the brokenness and holding the pieces together …
The parts that need us to step outside of our comfort zone and find creative solutions…

One day at a time...

For a good while now, charities like ours have been battling to meet the need out there. There seems to be an ever-growing social crisis and an ever-shrinking support base on which we can draw to help us keep the lights on and the cupboards full.

That is why YOU are OUR HERO! We are so grateful that you are walking this journey with us through your generosity in helping to give us the crucial consistency of support that makes our work possible! The undeniable truth is that it is without a doubt the collective support of private individuals that is the secret to what has kept TLC floating over these past years of unprecidented unpredictability.

That being said, times continue to be a sturggle. So if you have any opportunity to help us grow our community of supporters by perhaps sharing our info on your groups… our posts on your social media or challenge your network, encouraging family and friends to just ‘donate’ the value of that next coffee… It doesn’t have to be much but we are sinking a little more as the cost-of-living increases and the numbers of those needing our help does too.

But we are still moving forward...

We have taken in 2 new-born babies last month, we recently said 1 permanent goodbye to adoption and a 'see ya later' to 2 of our Strive to Thrive youth as they settle into their college dorms and start their college journey! It feels like such an achievement and we look forward to updating you on everyone's progress.

Since January we have held various sessions, a Foster and Adoption Information session and two Trauma and Belonging Workshops besides all the other sessions on Personal development and life skills … Here is a review of our Trauma and Belonging Workshop "

So, I attended the trauma and belonging course presented by Joanna and Pippa from TLC and can say with confidence that its already made a difference to the way I respond to and raise my adopted son in a day to day context.

Not only do they have a detailed course with lots of info, but they open their hearts, share their lived experiences, practical resources and strategies to assist us in understanding and helping our kids.

It's definitely worth way more than the fee they charge to cover costs and a must attend for adoptive parents! Don't miss the next one! xx

If you have ideas we could work on implementing to boost our fundraising and financial sustainability efforts, please share! We are working on an offering of our Trauma and Belonging workshops for corporates – if you know of a workspace who feels they may have a need or an interest in understanding how Trauma shows up… we would be grateful for the chance to put something together for them.

Below is our invitation to our Braving Support Group for families and friends of children from hard places... please let us know if you'd like to attend.

P.S. I will be on maternity leave until September. If you are wanting to reach out we are always delighted to hear from our valued supporters. Please reach out to pippa@tlc.org.za over the next few months.

Thank you, once again, for being a Hero in our Village!

With Heartfelt Thanks and
Kind Regards,
Faith
