Help Us Win the Fight Against Tuberculosis in Mumbai

By Elisa Cappai | Junior Project Manager

Dear Donors,
our partner Lok Seva Sangam (LSS) continues to support the healthcare needs of people with tuberculosis in the slums of Mumbai.

Today, we want to bring you the story of a true warrior who recently completed her 6-month tuberculosis treatment and is now embracing life with renewed health and positivity. Her journey was not easy, but she faced every challenge with incredible strength. In her own words, she shares how hope and support can help one push through the darkest moments and emerge victorious. Her story is a powerful reminder that tuberculosis is curable with proper treatment and that no matter how tough the battle, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Let her story inspire those who are still fighting and bring hope to all those who need it.

I had fever for a few days and I took medicines without any recovery. Doctors were unable to diagnose the cause. Then I got admitted to the hospital and there they tested my blood. Results came out and I was tuberculosis-positive. Then my TB treatment started and I took medicines correctly for six months and I started feeling better”.

What difficulties did you face during the treatment?
I had to take four pills at a time, but Lok Seva Sangam suggested that I take each pill at 10-minute intervals. I followed their instructions. It helped me a lot to ingest the four pills. I felt better and started doing some household work. Earlier, I was struggling to do any work because I used to get very tired and was not able to get up from bed. I was really in a bad state. I started recovering within 2-3 months of treatment and even my weight started to increase. I am 60 kgs now and I’m stress-free”.

From your experience, what would you like to say to other TB patients?
“If anyone has tuberculosis, then I would request them not to spit in public and keep a handkerchief on their mouth while coughing or sneezing to avoid the transmission of this disease. Please maintain personal hygiene. Tuberculosis is a common and curable disease and with proper treatment, anyone can recover”.

Early diagnosis and treatment are key to stopping the spread of this disease. In order to reach this goal, we need your help. Your generosity helps us make a difference in the lives of those affected by tuberculosis!
