Summary

In Kampala's refugee communities, girls face displacement, gender-based violence, poverty, and exclusion from education and safe spaces. This March, Global Girl Project aims to raise $2,500 to train 100 refugee girls through a three-month leadership programme delivered with Soccer Without Borders Uganda. Girls gain confidence, lead community action, and access education grants. Your support helps girls become leaders shaping safer, stronger communities.

Challenge

In Kampala, refugee girls from DRC, Rwanda & South Sudan carry wisdom of their cultures and weight of displacement. They face a complex reality shaped by displacement, poverty, lack of access to education & gender-based violence. Adolescent refugee girls are particularly vulnerable, often excluded from school and safe public spaces. Without targeted intervention, many face early marriage, informal labour, or prolonged economic dependency. Without intervention, their potential remains untapped.

Solution

This project will train 100 refugee girls in Kampala with our partner, Soccer Without Borders. Girls learn leadership skills & identify community issues to design solutions. The project culminates into a girl-led event such as ending child marriage and refugee discrimination, benefiting 2000+ community members. Graduates receive education grants for school & join a lifelong network of 1,500+ alumni. This is beyond just training, it's a pathway for girls to lead & for communities to transform.

Long-Term Impact

100 refugee girls will gain lasting leadership, confidence & education pathways, reducing exclusion, early school drop-out & vulnerability to violence. Since 2023, 110+ girls have led 8 community events reaching 500+ community members. 77% report stronger leadership skills & 79% feel more confident speaking out. As girls continue leading, they shift community attitudes towards girls' leadership, improve health and education outcomes, and strengthen refugee communities from within.
