Building the capacity of burn therapists in Asia

From March 15 to March 19, 2015, the first Advanced Burn Care Rehabilitation training course was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This five-day course, developed jointly by Sunshine Foundation (Taiwan) and Interburns (UK) and delivered in partnership with Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMC) and Acid Survivor Foundation (ASF), targeted 26 therapists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ghana and Tanzania. This comprehensive course covered the whole scope of burn physical rehabilitation, and featured lectures, practice, simulations and discussions.

Feng-Yi HSIAO and Shih-Yuan HUNG from Sunshine’s Taipei Rehabilitation Center were two of the trainers and they delivered presentations on scar management, hand management, splinting and activities of daily living, as well as held related learning activities that allowed participants to put into practice principles learned in class.

Since 2011, Sunshine Foundation has been organizing or participating in training and capacity building projects to improve the ability of burn professionals from low-middle income countries to deliver better care to burn survivors locally. As a supporter of our project “Give burn survivors access to rehabilitation” on GlobalGiving, you make these capacity building efforts possible.

Now, during GlobalGiving’s Bonus Day on July 15, you have the chance to maximize the value of your support because GlobalGiving will be matching gifts made to Sunshine Foundation at 30%. This means that your donation of $100 will receive a $30 match!

We invite you to support Sunshine Foundation’s efforts to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to burn survivors in Taiwan by donating to our project “Give burn survivors access to rehabilitation”.
