Project Report | Jan 29, 2017
Thank you for your support in 2016!

By Marie-Claude Pelchat | Project Leader

Since 2011 when Sunshine Foundation launched its first international cooperation project to bring rehabilitation to burn survivors in low and middle income countries, we have been fortunate to count on the support of generous donors like you. Whether it’s in Central America, India our Bangladesh, your donations have allowed us to focus on building the skills and capacities of professionals like therapists and social workers, either through trainings held in their own country, or through internships held at Sunshine Foundation in Taiwan. And when burn professionals are empowered, burn survivors can receive better care locally.

With your help in 2016, we were able to launch a new three-year capacity building project for burn therapists in Central and South America focusing on hand rehabilitation. The first training in 2016 focused on establishing the basis for hand rehabilitation, covering through theoretical and practical lectures topics such as anatomy, hand evaluation, planning interventions and splint making. In 2017, we will continue to work with our partners to further strengthen skills and knowledge, so that burn survivors in Central and South America have access to the best care and can regain maximum hand function following their injury.

Our international capacity building projects would not be possible without your support. Your donations not only keep us going, but also bring attention to our work and in the process, help raise awareness about the needs of burn survivors worldwide. We look forward to continuing working with you in 2017 to change the lives of burn survivors worldwide through our project on GlobalGiving Give burn survivors access to rehabilitation!
