Update on girls' bakery skills training

By Joy O. Etubi | Project Leader

Dear valued donor,

Thank you for your initial support for the project to train 150 girls in bakery and catering skills. Although funding is still at an early stage, we remain committed to preparing young women in low-income communities for stable income opportunities. We appreciate your contribution and want to share the progress and needs surrounding this initiative.

Across many areas, poverty forces girls out of school and into early marriage or unstable work. With no practical skills or tools to earn a living, they face long-term dependence and limited choices. Many survive on irregular, low-paid work, leaving them unable to support themselves or help their families. This project was created to give these girls a reliable path to income through practical training and basic business skills.

Once fully funded, the program will train 150 girls in baking, catering, and food safety. The sessions will be led by experienced instructors and will focus on hands-on learning. Participants will learn how to prepare bread, pastries, snacks, and simple catering items that are in high demand in local markets. In addition, they will receive guidance on costing, pricing, recordkeeping, and customer service, enabling them to manage small-scale businesses with confidence.

Every graduate will receive a startup kit that includes essential baking tools and initial supplies. These kits will allow them to begin earning immediately, whether through home-based baking or small neighborhood sales. With these resources, the girls can generate consistent income, return to school if they wish, and contribute to household needs.

In the long run, this project aims to create a network of young women who are financially stable, self-reliant, and able to train others. Your support helps move us closer to this goal. Thank you for standing with these girls as they work toward financial freedom.

Warm regards,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
