In the new year we hope that at least 3 of our World of Work (WOW) members will join the next training in organic agriculture. Perhaps on this course, for the first time, one of the girls may choose to participate in the month long training. Those who attended the previous training continue to put into place the practical learning that they received on the course. Daily the WOW team enjoy cooking and eating fresh greens and vegetables from the beds which have been planted. Each time when things are planted efforts are made to add something new. Things planted to date include: cowpeas, kales, cabbage, onions, cucumber, tomatoes including cherry tomatoes, lettuce, capsicum, carrots, chillies, butternut squash, coriander & other herbs, rhubarb among other things. Some of the WOW team staff attended at the Nakuru Agricultural show and got some seedlings from there. At the end of October WOW members attended the Kitale Agricultural Show over a two day period and observed agricultural produce on show.
Each day lunch is prepared for up to 20 people. This means a lot of greens and vegetables are used. In the past few weeks extra beds have been dug and planted at the compound next door which we have been given the use of. Rainfall currently is sporadic so it means that the vegetable beds need to be watered daily so the young people have a rota system, for this, supervised by Dennis. Recently we have acquired some rabbits so with the cooking each day left over greens are eaten by the rabbits. We look foward to the training in 2023 and thank all those who have supported this project to date.
