Summary

The project of solar training will train 1000 women engineers to boost socio-economic activities to be conducted in the local community in Tanzania, especially rural left-behind communities through access to clean solar energy. The project will intercept traditional kerosene oil-fueled lamps with solar lights, and additionally we are training women from within the community as informal solar engineers to install, repair, and maintain the equipment solar equipments also to stop air pollution.

Challenge

Most villages are poor rural regions in Tanzania, has a limited access to electricity, leading to rely heavily on fossil fuels, such as kerosene, for light and cooking leading to lung related diseases and also sever eyes problems leading to partial blindness also serious environmental pollution. Limited supply of energy leads to time and resource poverty, because of limited working hours by travelling huge distances to find firewoods for cooking.

Solution

The project will conduct the custom solar home lighting systems which can be repaired. Then holding community awareness meetings and selecting and training women who will get a five-month camping training to become a Solar engineers. The selected women will learn various skills such as technical, leadership, entrepreneurship, health, and financial skills. Upon their return, each Woman Solar engineer will installs and maintains the solar equipment in 40 houses in Tanzania

Long-Term Impact

The statistics of International Energy Agency(IEA) states that four in five people in sub-Saharan Africa live without efficient electricity. Our Women Solar training and electrification program will bring light to nearby 205,000 households, reducing the impact of fossil fuels and improving health of local community members. The Women Solar engineers will maintain the equipment to sustain the long-term impact in their communities, also control climate change.
