Thousands of boys in Nigerian cities survive by begging, exposing them to abuse, disease, and exploitation. This project will provide vocational skills training to 1,000 street boys in trades such as carpentry, tailoring, and ICT. Participants will receive hands-on training, mentorship, and starter kits to launch small businesses or find employment. Immediate support is needed to give these boys alternatives to street life, improve their livelihoods, & reduce vulnerability to crime & exploitation.
Many boys in Nigeria live and work on the streets, surviving by begging, scavenging, or informal labor. They face hunger, disease, and exposure to crime, reducing their chance of a safe and productive life. Lack of education and vocational training limits their ability to find work or support themselves. Without intervention, street boys remain vulnerable, trapped in cycles of poverty, crime, and social exclusion.
The project provides practical vocational skills training, mentorship, and starter kits to 1,000 street boys. Participants will learn trades such as carpentry, tailoring, and ICT, gaining hands-on experience to earn income. Mentorship guides boys in managing their skills and finding opportunities. By providing alternatives to begging, the project reduces exposure to exploitation and gives boys tools to support themselves and their families safely.
Trained boys will gain employable skills, enabling them to earn income and exit street life. Starter kits allow them to begin small businesses, creating economic stability and independence. Communities benefit as boys become productive members, reducing crime and vulnerability in neighborhoods. The project also establishes a model for vocational training programs for street youth, which can be expanded to other cities, increasing youth employment and improving social outcomes over time.
