“I am lucky to have Aumazo and all the people who support me and my fellow graduates in my life. When I joined the tutoring program three years ago, I would never have imagined that today, I will be this happy as a student. I do not know how to express my gratitude to all of you. Please, just tell everybody at Aumazo that education changed my outlook in life,” Alida hammered out these words Sunday morning when I had an opportunity to talk to her by phone.
Alida is one of the first tutoring program graduates and also one of the lucky scholarship recipients. Her success in the program during these past three academic years would not have happened were it not for your generosity.
Alida's Academic Journey
She previously failed the high school entrance exams for two years in a row and was beginning her third year in 8th grade when she joined the tutoring program in 2016. It was her last chance to prove herself or risk being expelled from the school. Her parents’ tedious ultimatum of pass or withdraw was beginning to discourage her.
“Today, I am happy and feel very empowered. My student’s life is the most amazing one. I would never have been this smart if I had quit school three years ago. My understanding of education concepts and my public speaking skills have improved tremendously. I am no longer shy and have become an inspiration to my peers. I am currently coaching one of my classmates, helping her understand that shyness can make one feels like a second-class citizen. ” Alida said.
Your unprecedented kindness is working wonders for Aumazo programs. Your gifts are not only giving our girls such as Alida the opportunity to change their lives, they are also transforming the lives of their families and forever shifting the course of history of their communities.
Moving Beyond The Tutoring Program
Our work in Cameroon has a tremendous payoff. Alida’s update is a testimony to how persistent efforts could lead to visible and desirable changes. However, so much more remains to be done. The twenty-three girls that graduated from the tutoring program in the last two academic years could not enter our school because the buildings are not yet complete.
As we prepare to build the school, we must continue to provide ongoing support for our operating budget, which includes planning for the school construction, continuing the tutoring program, developing curriculum, finding partners, and a host of other important tasks that the Aumazo organization does on a daily basis.
Meeting Our Objectives
I know that we can achieve these goals together. In order to continue with our work, we still need your help and will greatly appreciate if you can commit to a recurring donation or an annual giving amount. Your contributions will help us continue supporting Aumazo in the U.S. and Cameroon as we plan for the building and opening of our school in Cameroon in the fall of 2020.
As a Friend of Aumazo, you have already turned this nearly 14-year old dream into the reality that girls like Alida deserve. Thank you for throwing your support to Aumazo.
