Helping girls achieve their potential

By Elizabeth A Appleyard | Program Administrator

AIL helps adolescent girls reach their potential through its remote learning through TV and radio, Learning Centers classes, workshop program and the Yacoobi Private Schools.

Girls and young women are a focus for AIL’s programs. Girls want to reach their potential and improve their lives and opportunities in life. Girls that attend school can come to AIL’s Learning Centers to gain extra tuition in subject they are studying. This helps them succeed in the school system.

Some girls are unable to continue their education and are able to access the remote learning of  Meraj Academy on Dr. Yacoobi’s TV Meraj. This provides daily, high school level classes for grades 7-12.

Radio Meraj is also an educational resource for adolescents as it provides education, news and information. Girls can learn about what is going on in their communities and nationally and about topics such as women’s health, hygiene, leadership and entrepreneurship.

Good health is central to the success of girls and women in work and study. AIL has a focus on reproductive health education through its network of 12 health clinics. This program teaches girls about their bodies and how to take proper care of themselves and what to expect from bodily changes in life. So far in 2023, 70,930 people have attended health education sessions, many of these are female patients or female family members of patients who attend a clinic for care. Everyone is invited to attend a session whether they are their to see a doctor or nurse or just a companion. The information gains is then relayed to the rest of the family when back home.

Your support makes all the difference! Thank you.
