Developing strong girls

By Elizabeth A Appleyard | Program Administrator

Education is the way forward for Afghanistan. The younger generation has so much to offer and unlocking that potential comes through quality education. A scholarship opens the door to education for poor female students who lack the finances for education.

Professor Yacoobi’s private education program which includes four schools has been operating for over 15 years. The schools offer outstanding teaching, facilities and a wide range of academics, sport, arts and extra curricula activities. In addition to academic education the schools provide a solid foundation in life skills and core values teaching these young people how to cooperate and share in a community setting.

It is easier to build strong children than to rehabilitate failed adults. A strong foundation in childhood sets the course of a life.  The school is where children are introduced to community outside of home.  Students view their peers alongside different demands, needs and emotions and observe for the first time the diversity of people. They are taught about their rights and responsibilities and respect for others.

Female students have the opportunity to try many new things and engage in sport, arts and student parliament for example. Activities they would not have at home.  The science program is a core subject and the science laboratories play an important role in developing students' creativity by nurturing creative thinking, training seekers, creators, innovators, and generators. Laboratories in schools, with experienced, committed scientific members and proper equipment, are the best environment to nurture students' creativity and curiosity.

Thank you for your support for the education of Afghan girls and young women.
