Project Report | Dec 19, 2025
A Journey of Growth and Holistic Development

By Hamza Khan | Program Specialist

Beginning in August 2025, this academic term reflected the dynamic and evolving learning environments across both Zindagi Trust adopted schools. Through targeted teacher development, diverse student learning opportunities, comprehensive health programs, and active community engagement, SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School (SMB) and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School (KPS) continued to uphold their mission of nurturing confident, capable individuals prepared to make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

Strengthening the Foundation: Teacher Development and Recognition

The academic year commenced with a significant investment in our educators’ professional development. SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School conducted a comprehensive four-day Teacher Training Program designed to foster reflection, collaboration, and innovative teaching practices. The sessions comprised engaging activities led by subject leads, aimed at exploring new pedagogical ideas. The Project Manager of SMB shared Zindagi Trust’s vision and mission while the Deputy Project Manager conducted practical workshops on notebook checking and delivering effective feedback. This training program was further complemented by specialized skill-building sessions, including the Math Star Workshop by Kifayat Publishers, where 12 SMB teachers explored creative strategies to enhance mathematics instruction.

Other collaborative engagements further strengthened our teaching standards. 08 SMB teachers participated in the prestigious launch of “English as a Subject for Teachers and Educators” at the Chief Minister’s House, an initiative by the British Council and Sindh Teacher Education Development Authority (STEDA), aimed at training 1000 licensed teachers and preparing them to become Master Trainers to impact more than two million learners.

In another remarkable achievement, 03 of our government staff faculty members and 09 of those on the Zindagi Trust payroll, thus a total of 12 SMB teachers, successfully passed the B-16 teaching license examination. Their professional accomplishment was celebrated at a formal ceremony held in the Scouts Auditorium, where they were presented with shields in the presence of the education minister and other dignitaries. These milestones reflect our educators' dedication to excellence and professional growth.

Specialized training programs reinforced instructional quality across all levels. Early Childhood Education (ECE) staff at both schools completed Jolly Phonics training, gaining refreshed strategies to strengthen foundational literacy. Collaborative learning was further promoted through a workshop led by NED University’s Applied Linguistics students for SMB’s English teachers, focusing on scaffolding techniques to minimize persistent language errors and fostering a rich exchange of expertise.

The commitment and dedication of our educational teams was formally honored during Teachers' & Staff Appreciation Day celebrations. At SMB, certificates were presented in recognition of commendable performance throughout the academic year, creating an atmosphere of gratitude and pride.

Nurturing Student Potential: Academic, Creative, and Civic Engagement

Our students embraced diverse opportunities for growth beyond traditional academics. Creative expression flourished through participation in the "Live Art Gala Corner" held at CMS School, where SMB students from Grades 6-8 showcased STEAM-based performances highlighting Pakistan’s past, present, and future under the guidance of dedicated teachers.

This innovative journey of learning continued with an educational visit to Khaliq Dina Hall, where twenty SMB students engaged with artistic forms of expression and cultural heritage while exploring the hall's extensive library resources.

Civic awareness and responsibility were equally emphasized. At KPS, Grade 10 students attended an interactive Election Commission session featuring a mock polling station, gaining practical insight into democratic processes and responsible citizenship. Meanwhile, both schools launched the impactful “Bolty Kyun Nahi” (Why Do You Not Speak Up?) initiative, placing suggestion boxes across the campuses to encourage anonymous sharing of concerns and aspirations. This effort reflects a strong commitment to ensuring every voice is heard and valued, with feedback personally reviewed by the founder of Zindagi Trust.

Career and academic development were advanced through purposeful initiatives. KPS students from Grades 9 and 10 participated in a Career Expo sponsored by the Army Public School, where they interacted with representatives from leading educational institutions to explore scholarship opportunities abroad and learned about diverse career pathways.

Students’ passion for science was reflected as KPS earned 2nd place in the Sindh Young Innovators Expo 2025 for an environmental project focused on recycling and community solutions.

Diplomatic and leadership skills were strengthened through prestigious platforms. 07 SMB students from Grades 9 and 10 confidently participated in the Habib University Model United Nations, demonstrating strong debating abilities and critical thinking while earning certificates. At KPS, leadership structures were formalized during the Students’ Council Oath Ceremony, where the Head Prefect and 36 student leaders from Grades 5 to 10 pledged to uphold school values and serve as role models for their peers.

Celebrating Excellence: Competitions and Cultural Pride

Our students exhibited remarkable talent and determination across multiple disciplines. Chess emerged as a standout strength, with both schools achieving remarkable success. SMB students dominated the District South Chess Championship, swept all top positions in the Under-14 categories and earned recognition from the Sports Minister. Earlier, seventeen SMB students had participated in the Jashn-e-Azadi Chess Championship at the Russian Centre of Culture and Science, with many of them claiming leading placements across divisions. KPS students also put in a strong performance at the Habib Girls School Chess Competition, securing second and third positions in the Under-12 category, while an alumna claimed second place in the Under-16 category.

Patriotic celebrations inspired national pride and creative expression. Both schools commemorated Independence Day with vibrant enthusiasm. SMB hosted festivities spanning all sections from ECE to Grade 10, featuring themed charts, songs, speeches, dances, skits, and a spirited rally that transformed the campus with festive ambiance. The joy of Independence Day was amplified when SMB students got the chance to deliver special musical performances at prestigious institutions like Bank Alfalah and the State Bank of Pakistan. Their talent was warmly appreciated, especially in the presence of Zindagi Trust’s founder.

KPS also celebrated Independence Day with vibrant performances, including skits, dances, speeches, poetry recitals, and spirited debates, fostering patriotism and creative expression among students.

Cultural and spiritual traditions added depth to the school community experience. KPS hosted a spiritually uplifting Mehfil-e-Milad in two separate sessions for students and teachers, including Quranic recitation, Naats, and reflective speeches that inspired devotion and moral reflection. Both schools also commemorated Iqbal Day with poetry recitations, speeches, and performances that honored Allama Iqbal’s message of self-belief and moral courage, encouraging students to build strong character and contribute positively to society. The day featured meaningful activities, including the recitation of Iqbal’s inspirational ‘ashaar’ (couplets) such as “Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pehle, Khuda bande se khud poochay bata teri raza kya hai” and “Sitaron se aage jahan aur bhi hain.” (“Raise yourself to such heights that before every decree of fate, God Himself asks you: ‘Tell me, what is your wish?’”) & (“Beyond the stars, there lie yet more worlds.”) These verses helped students understand Iqbal’s message of self-belief, courage, and continuous effort. Teachers shared short reflections on how Iqbal urged young people to become “Shaheen”- bold, visionary, and independent thinkers who strive for excellence. Students also presented speeches, tablaeu, and short performances highlighting Iqbal’s philosophy of self-discovery and empowerment.

Promoting Well-being: Health, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship

Holistic student protection was supported through comprehensive health and wellness initiatives. Preventive care remained a priority, with vaccination drives and awareness sessions conducted across both schools.

At SMB, an informative session, led by a team visiting on behalf of the Government of Sindh, was carried out to let the participants know about cervical cancer, its symptoms, and possibility of prevention through HPV vaccine. The session attended by nearly 800 students, was followed by a vaccination drive, administering HPV vaccines to 147 students aged 9–15 with parental consent.

Additionally, a polio vaccination drive was also carried out for ECE students up to age 5 at SMB.

Similarly, KPS hosted a combined Polio and HPV awareness session for parents with the support of government health officials. Later in October 2025, KPS also observed World Polio Day with interactive sessions and awareness pamphlets for Grade 6–8 students. The purpose was to help these older students learn about polio prevention and the critical role of vaccination so they can become ambassadors and spread the message in their communities.

Awareness and early detection were prioritized through targeted health sessions. Both schools conducted breast cancer awareness programs, SMB collaborated with Aga Khan University to educate teachers and students on preventive measures and self-examination, while KPS invited medical professionals from Patel Hospital to guide Grade 9 students and staff.

Mental health was also given focused attention through multiple initiatives. Final year students from Jinnah University for Women facilitated a workshop on stress management and fostering a positive mindset, targeting Grade 9 &10 students at KPS. To maintain student interest in the topic, an inspiring session on emotional well-being was organized, led by a renowned Pakistani actress and social advocate. During the session at KPS, she spoke about understanding emotions, managing challenges, and leading a simple yet fulfilling life.

Practical health services were delivered through on-campus initiatives. Dental check-up camps were held at both schools, with SMB hosting a team of 50 doctors from Jinnah Medical Institute for Grades 1-5, and KPS welcoming dental professionals from Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences for ECE to Grade 4. Additionally, a Secondary Health Screening Program was conducted at KPS for Grades 6–10, which included pediatric examinations and hepatitis testing with parental consent.

Environmental responsibility and safety preparation were actively promoted. 15 SMB students from Grades 9 and 10 took part in a plantation drive at Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim Park, contributing to the planting of 1,500 trees in an initiative organized by the Legal Awareness Trust and attended by a High Court Judge. Safety training was also prioritized through a Shake-Out Drill at SMB, where students practiced the "DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON" technique for earthquake preparedness under the guidance of teachers who are trained annually by the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan.

Fostering Community Partnerships and Parental Engagement

Strong school-community relationships were nurtured through intentional engagement. KPS welcomed newly enrolled students’ families with a comprehensive Parents’ Orientation Day, where the school’s leadership introduced Zindagi Trust's mission, highlighted the school's transformation journey, and outlined academic enhancements, wellness programs, and communication protocols, strengthening the home-school partnership from the very beginning.

Community connections were expanded through collaborative events and visits. 25 KPS students attended the "Bachpan Bemisaal" launch and World Children's Day Celebration held at the Aga Khan University Auditorium. The event, organized by UNICEF in collaboration with the creator and producer of Pakkay Dost, featured the screening of new Urdu educational series, followed by a panel discussion on children's rights.

SMB deepened alumni engagement when a former student, currently studying Human Diet and Nutrition at Jinnah University, returned to deliver an insightful session on dietetics, BMI, and career opportunities in nutrition.

Supporting Academic Growth and Recreational Well-being

Focused academic support ensured no student was left behind. In October 2025, SMB initiated after-school remedial classes, engaging thirty teachers to deliver small-group instruction for students identified through past performance and current assessments. Parents, especially those of junior grade students, have demonstrated strong ownership and cooperation, and the results already reflect significant progress among learners.

Balanced development was further promoted through recreational opportunities. The WOW Carnival at SMB brought joy and excitement to students from ECE to Grade 9, with younger learners enjoying food stalls and games while older students participated in thrilling activities using WOW tickets, creating a vibrant atmosphere that energized the entire school community.

Looking Ahead with Purpose and Vision

As we reflect on these months of diverse achievements, it is clear that true educational excellence extends beyond academics. Through comprehensive teacher development, enriched student experiences, health and wellness initiatives, and strengthened community partnerships, SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School have cultivated environments where every individual is empowered to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully.

The collaborative spirit evident across both schools, from chess championships to health awareness campaigns, from teacher training to parental engagement, reflects our shared commitment to holistic education. As we move forward, we aim to build on this momentum while staying true to our vision and mission, creating nurturing ecosystems where teachers are empowered, students are inspired, and communities are strengthened through the transformative power of quality education.
